Technorati Favorite Your Fans

Latest version: 07/05/23 (07/05/31 breaks)

What Are Technorati Favorites?

Technorati is one of the two largest blog search engines. Favorites is a way to bookmark other blogs on the Technorati site. By favoriting a blog on Technorati it shows up on your favorites list and you can limit your blog searches to only search within your favorites. It’s a good way to track blogs you don’t want to subscribe to the RSS feeds for.

What is Technorati Favorite Your Fans?

technorati favorites - people who favorited your blog - favorited byThis is a program that connects to the Technorati.com service, finds everyone who has favorited your blog and automatically favorites them back.

But Why Use This?

If someone has gone to the trouble of adding you to their favorites, this program will return the favor, without requiring you to go through all of the people who have favorited you and trying to find the ones you haven’t favorited back. This is something people already do, and this program is intended to save them time by automating the process.

How It Works

It only favorites a blog once. If you log into the Technorati website and delete a blog from your favorites they will not be added again. I strongly suggest checking the latest posts from your favorites and deleting any blogs that you don’t like. If any of the blogs look like spam you should report them to Technorati.

Technorat favorites - delete a favorite

It doesn’t always grab everyone who favorited you on the first try because of issues with Technorati. Even if you look at the Favorited-By list on the web you’ll see duplicates and missing names. But if you run it once a week then over time it will get everyone.

The first time you use this program it will add my blog to your list of favorites, feel free to delete it and it won’t be added again.

I love this idea! I think I found a bug with with the -nogui switch - it doesn’t work! I tried adding it to the Task Schedualer and it opens the main window (and doesn’t start), I also tried running it directly from the command line and get the same result…

  2. Posted May 04, 2007 at | Permalink

Saman, try –nogui instead (two minus signs)

    My documentation is wrong. :)

  3. Posted May 04, 2007 at | Permalink

ok, my documentation is correct, wordpress is just being a moron and converting double minus sign into a dash.

  17. Posted June 24, 2007 at | Permalink

I confirm the version from 23/05/07 (or 05/23/07 for North Americans) is working, the newest version has problems.

    i agree. 070531 isn’t working, 070523 is….

    thanks for a cool tool!

quick question: is there a quick way to delete all my existing favorites?

    –steve

  19. Posted July 13, 2007 at | Permalink

Steve, that’s a good idea. I should put that in.

I’m also going to release a new version that works again. Technorati was changing their website every 5 minutes or so for a while there.

  20. Posted July 13, 2007 at | Permalink

I would love that feature. My favorites won’t display at the moment:

    http://technorati.com/faves/stevespeirs

Technorati response: “I’m afraid that there is currently a time out that is occuring for accounts that have a very large number of favorites. We greatly apologize for any inconvenience. You should be still be able to access your tagged favorites. We are working on resolving this issue.”

I have an .opml file of my favorites with which I’d like to replace my current favorites list. To do this I need to delete all my current ones….

I’ll subscribe to your feed and look out for the new version. Thanks!

Amazing piece of software. I wonder if you can do the same for MyblogLog. I do not know if it has any value but it would be nice to increase the number of friends in MyBlogLog. :D

Great concept, but it didn’t work for me. It said that technorati doesn’t use that version anymore. But it could just be me. I have a great way of getting Faves As well, I have a guest book just foe technorati and backlinks. it’s a tool that work’s because the guest book doesn’t require there e-mails and people seem to like that. Interesting and very readable post - just like the rest of your blog - thanks for sharing!

Here from your group announcement on BC - very effective!

The program sounds interesting, but you find the same on WP Dashboard and when looking at your Technorati profile, don’t you?

  38. Posted January 14, 2008 at | Permalink

    @ RennyBA:

    I’m confused by your comment.

When you run it, it will automatically favorite back everyone who has favorited you on technorati.

It doesn’t have anything to do with your WP Dashboard, and to my knowledge Technorati doesn’t have that option.

  39. Posted January 15, 2008 at | Permalink

very interesting… i shall have to read up on this a little more and try to implement it into my blog… Great Post!!

  48. Posted May 04, 2008 at | Permalink

Didn’t work anymore! :-( do you think upgrade it??

  49. Posted May 09, 2008 at | Permalink

I was happy to hear about your utility. Unfortunately I was not able to successfully download it. The download kept saying that the file was corrupted. After three attempts I had to give up. I may have lost the battle, but I am determined to win the war. Please let me know what I can try next. Thanks. Take care
