My name is Eric and I am a Canadian engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering. I’m a fan of automation and using computers to do the heavy lifting so I don’t have to. I have the typical engineer’s desire to put a square peg in a round hole just to see if it’s possible. Internet Duct Tape is about that Frankenstein-like philosophy of making things work together that were never meant to.

About the Blog

Internet Duct Tape reached it’s peak in February 2007 with around 120,000-180,000 page views a month. Highest peak so far is 62,000 page views in one day. There has been a decline since then as I now view blogging as a secondary hobby instead of a primary pursuit. It used to be called //engtech at the domain http://engtech.wordpress.com until I saw the light and bought my own domain name.

I’ve been linked to on the front page by pretty much every major blog / tech site at one time or another. Some highlights: Slashdot, Digg, Reddit, Delicious, Fark, Lifehacker, Gawker, Download Squad, Problogger, Copyblogger, Daily Blog Tips, The Blog Herald, Web Worker Daily, Pronet Advertising, Google Operating System, Lifehack.org, Coding Horror, Robert Scoble as well as several mainstream media publications. I reached the top 1400 most linked blogs according to Technorati before I gave up on their poor service.

In November 2007 I was featured as one of the 30 interviews in Blogging Heroes by New York Times bestselling author Michael A. Banks.

Theme

This blog is running the Sandbox theme on WordPress using a custom skin I created in December 2006 and reworked in July 2007 for the Sandbox Design Contest. It is called Black and Blue and Read All Over and you can download it to use it for yourself.

I believe in the 100% Easy to Read (100E2R) standard. The icons used on my blog are from FamFamFam’s Silk icon pack.

This site looks best under Firefox (or anything other than Internet Explorer 6). IE6 has a problem with images (transparent PNGs).

Credits

I often use CC-licensed photos to create category headers for different post subjects. You can find credits for all of the photos I use in my post headers.
