@brent: The tag cloud is a 3rd party utility I wrote that I haven't cleaned up enough to release to the public. If I released it now no one would be able to get it working... so I haven't yet.

Use the text widget to show only the pages you want to and then you can use CSS and display:none to hide the top navigation bar. Also, if you use nested pages (set the parent to an existing page) they won't show up in the top navbar (but they would show in the sidebar widget -- so don't use it).

@Internet Monkey: I do plan to write some (you can find my tips here: http://engtech.wordpress.com/tools/wordpress/) but I find that writing wordpress.com specific tips doesn't get as much of an audience as you'd think. Definitely not as much as writing about wordpress or blogging in general.

I think a really good way to get some hits is to just focus a bit on Wordpress.com tips, but then again, that would require people to be paying for upgrades.

What's up engtech? May I ask you, how are you making your tag clouds? It looks sweet. I want to do this, but do I need a special program/script to do this, or did you just hand code it with css? Just wondering, because I like the look of it. I want to make a tag cloud for my local tags.

I wonder if it is possible to only display some tags (in the sidebar) but not all. I also wonder if this is also the case with pages. I would like to make a lot of pages but not have them appear in the sidebar. I know I could use a text widget, but they will still appear in my top navigation bar.

There are a lot of secrets to wordpress.com, and while they are fun to uncover, I wish more that they weren't hidden.

Anyway, back to the tag cloud. Again, how did you do this?

Note to self -- that's probably more links than I want to bookmark in a week.
