Q+A: What is your favorite online web comic?

Posted in Humor, Request for Comments, Technology by engtech on January 31st, 2007

I think online web comics and blogging go hand-in-hand. I find it very interesting how people express themselves and ideas using computers as a medium.

I’ve always been a fan of comic books and cartoons (I’m still an awkward teenager at heart). Here are some of my favorite web comics.

If you have some favorites, I’d love if you’d mention it in a comment on this post, or by posting your favorites on your blog and sending a trackback (maybe this can start a meme). My interest in web comics is coming to the forefront because of my own desire to create one.

UPDATE: I decided to ask the same question on Reddit.

My Favorite Online Web Comics

Not Quite Web Comics But Still Cool

  • Drawn! isn’t really a comic, but it is a blog that showcases artists. Very inspirational.
  • Indexed is a collection of graphs on index cards. A great way to convey ideas. If you like XKCD you’ll like Indexed.
  • PostSecret is a staple of the Internet.

    What about Dilbert?

Dilbert is very good most of the time.

  2. engtech said, on January 31st, 2007 at

Dilbert is good. I quite enjoy reading Scott Adams’ blog: http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/

I don’t read Dilbert regularly though because they don’t have RSS: http://www.dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/archive/

Although someone is providing an RSS feed for them as a 3rd party so I might start: http://feeds.feedburner.com/tapestrydilbert

One of the best I have found.

BTW - whatever you’ve just done to your theme, the blog doesn’t fit the 1024×768 window in FF on my laptop any more. :(

I’m going to fix that. It’s the Featured Posts floating sidebar I added. I’m going to change it to a much smaller navigation aid with search. I think it only looks ok on a 21″ monitor and 1600. I’m also going to tighten up the asides and fix some usability issues with those.

CSS design is a lifestyle, not a hobby. Now I understand why my buddy Kenji doesn’t do web design contract anymore. Always more work :)

I really like the navbars on Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I’m going to have to steal the idea for my comicblogger project.

Maybe I’m out of line here .. but I find PVP Online pretty hilarious. It’s not bleeding the edge of humour .. it’s comfortable .. but also, for me it’s funny.

Not that I have visited in a while, seems my online comic browsing is like a big sporadic sine curve .. with a bigger down-curve .. so not really sine. I mean .. urg.

The site should look good in 1024 again.

    Kim Possible: Remixed!

OK, it’s more of a screen capture one over a normal webcomic. Think of it as a better looking sprite comic. :)

NBA Toons (shameless and obvious self-pimp) but Warning: I’m a total hack, and they mostly suck. But it’s because I’m a huge fan of all the gamer webcomics that’s been mentioned here and they were the inspiration for me trying this new hobby out. Hope there’re hoop fans around here..

Oh yeah, I can’t believe Applegeeks didn’t get mention here!!

ps, this blog is like blog heaven for fake blogger newbs like me…

Dinosaur Comics - http://www.qwantz.com - has to be my favourite at the moment.

xkcd & pbf are usually good, and I confess to still reading Dilbert daily.

An old classic is The Parking Lot Is Full - http://plif.andkon.com/archive/archive.htm

Spacemoose was brilliant too, but now quite dead; google will dig up an unofficial archive.
