I think the key is not to do a over kill on the tags because if you add too many you may not get found as quick. Lets say if i had 5 tags and another poster had 3 tags he would get the hit before me and this is true because we tested the tags on 2.0 and done the same search.
Kind Regards

[...] This one talks about tagging, semantics, and folksonomy. It’s on the dry side but I think the overall message is sound: when tagging use popular high ranking tags and use a lot of them. [...]

[...] Tagging is an essential way to add semantic information to help people find similar posts. They aren’t the same as categories, although you can use the same tools to do both. Each post should have multiple tags. Tagging is like putting a Post-It note on your favorite socks to remind you that they have pictures of Superman, so that you’d be able to find them if you couldn’t see the sock but you could still see the Post-It. That’s a really bad analogy. [...]

[...] Each project can be tagged with various categories by the project adminstrator. Note that tagging will end up being pretty arbitrary unless there are some kind of moderators going around and cleaning it up to achieve a common folksonomy. Users can enter any labels they choose, although some are banned (like “google“). [...]
